To be black is widely understood as someone of African descent. But 'blackness' as we understand it in the Western world fails to capture the multitude of distinct ethnic, linguistic, and cultural groups that exist on the African continent.
Many African descendants in the diaspora will never set foot in their ancestral lands, and remain perpetually estranged from the traditions of their forefathers.
